Dear friends of Missouri Academy of Music,
I hope this letter finds you well, enjoying fall weather and activities. We would like to let you know how the Academy is doing this school year and tell you about our upcoming concerts!
We have had a busy fall semester. We currently have 42 students enrolled, out of which 15 are in the MAM Sinfonietta and 27 in MAM Virtuosi. We have 7 chamber music ensembles working on music in a small setting for part of each rehearsal. Five string coaches are helping our students during rehearsal and two conductors share the podium.
Some of the recent events we would like to bring your attention to:
Our students remain committed to our Young Hearts - Performing with Purpose initiative. We bring music to those, who are unable to see us perform in the traditional setting. On October 10th we performed at the Memory Care Unit at Lenoir Woods Senior Living.
"I wanted to let you know that everything went very well this past Monday. The students got to warm up/tune their instruments in the back area of Greenwood and then performed in the living room for a large crowd. A resident from Assisted Living and one from REACH (Rehab) came too! All of the residents very much enjoyed the performance and even asked if they would come back. I told the residents they would be back in November and they were so glad to hear that. I heard several residents say “these kids are very talented!”
We are going back there this coming Tuesday!
October 22nd was also an exciting day for MAM, as we had a special guest hold a Masterclass for our students. This guest was Mike Block, who was in town as a soloist for the MUMC Concert Series and at 10 am that same day he was our Master Teacher. Our students really enjoyed learning about Improvisation from the cellist of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble! I am sure many of you also saw his evening concert along with our students.
October continued to be a busy month for us. On October 25th we invited our students to see the Saint Louis Symphony at Jesse Hall. MAM sponsored tickets for all our students and also negotiated family members discounted tickets.
It is thanks to our generous sponsors and donors that we are able to provide all of these opportunities for our students and it is our hope that you will continue supporting MAM this year as well!
Save the date! Our Fall concert is on Saturday, November 19th, 7PM at Broadway Christian Church. Our students, coaches and conductors are looking forward to seeing you!
Other events coming up - December 7th, both ensembles perform a Holiday program at Terrace Retirement Community and on December 12th we perform at Lenoir Senior Living. Both concerts start at 6.30pm.
We are excited for the success of the past months and can't wait for the upcoming events and the spring semester.
All the best, see you soon
Kirk and Maria Trevor
